Please be in outstanding physical hiking condition to sign up for this hike.
The meeting point is the trail head at the corner of Lake Avenue and East Loma Alta Drive.
We will take on the Las Flores Ridge Line up to the Mt. Lowe Road, climbing 1,200 feet in elevation gain in less than a mile.
We will take a short break at Mt. Lowe Road to take in the sights and read about the history of the cable cars at Cape of Good Hope.
Then we will take another ridgeline to Inspiration Point. This is all cross-country. Make sure you’re comfortable with class 3 scrambling.
For much of the trail from Inspiration Point, we hike on the fire road for about 3/8ths of a mile. Look to your right for the Mt. Lowe East Trail Sign. We then begin our ascent up to Mt. Lowe.
The Mt. Lowe East and West Trail will meet in a fork in the trail. We follow the sign up and ascend to Mt Lowe.
The view from Mt. Lowe Peak is outstanding. You would have wished you continued up to it on your hikes to Inspiration Point in the past.
We then will descend down Mt. Lowe the route we took up. As we approach Inspiration Point, we will take an alternate route back down to Echo Mountain. This is the Middle Sam Merrill Trail to Echo Mountain as you can see in the picture below. About a mile down the Middle Sam Merrill Trail, we will take a short break just past Sunset Point to take in an outstanding view of Los Angeles for a terrific photo What to bring:
