This hike is an addendum to the “Foothills Above Castaic” hike. As the original hike was an exploratory, the return portion which should have made the origingal a better and less strenous return, we never had the time to walk the route. This hike can be an out-and-back on a dirt road that heads towards Lake Piru. Or, if all participants agree, we can do a small lollipop route that encompasses a short steep ascent and a small amount of cross country terrain with some bush-wacking. With regards to the dirt road that heads to Lake Piru, we will not be able to go the entire way to the lake as it would be too far. The turn around will possibly be where we can get a view of the lake and we have walked a reasonable distance. As long as the sky is free of clouds, expect the views to be stunning of this remote area of the southwest portion of the Los Padres Forest.
The hike would be 10 to 12 miles with about 1500 to 2000 feet of elevation gain. It would be suitable for advanced beginners.
If interested, clear the date on your calendar. Specific details will be forth coming over the next couple of weeks.
