Join me on another CDH beach and bluff hike on Santa Barbara’s Douglas Family Preserve. This was the best in the CDH series of beach and bluff hikes. We’ll hike a series of trails on the Bluffs as well as a beach walk below. There’s miles of easy trails to satisfy our need to enjoy the outdoors at this location.
The park supports several native habitats including southern oak woodland, coastal bluff scrub, coastal sage scrub, riparian (creek) and annual grassland. The park includes a variety of trees, including coastal live oaks, Monterey pine and Monterey cypress. Non-native ornamental plants remain from the property’s past use as a nursery, along with other exotic vegetation. Staff and volunteers have performed habitat restoration at the park, including providing habitat for the monarch butterfly.
This area is a little over an hours drive from Thousand Oaks, so keep that in mind when signing on. To make it easier for you, I’m setting up an earlier meetup at the Thousand Oaks Park and Ride at the the corner of Robert S Haaland Dr. and S. Rancho Rd.
FIRST HIKE: We’ll first hike the bluff
