Assuming we don’t get pouring rain, I’m looking forward to doing one of my favorite long, local hikes that is finally open again after the fire!
I would like us to stay together as a group, and would appreciate it if those who go ahead will wait at all junctions so that nobody gets lost and we all return to our cars safely.
We will start our journey from the corner of Las Virgenes Road and Piuma, and walk through the lovely Malibu Creek State Park. Early on we will pass Century Lake and the M*A*S*H site. Stops at these locations will be determined by the group. We likely won’t want to dilly dally, as we have a long climb ahead of us!
Once we survey the damage at the M*A*S*H site, we will continue on to the Bulldog Motorway and begin the long climb up toward Corral Canyon (most of the elevation gain is here). After a brief scramble through some rocks (and a stop to take photos at Elephant Rock), we will see what’s left of the rock spiral. Hopefully we’ll get some ocean views, and survey the fire damage down to the ocean. If we haven’t already stopped for a snack break (sometimes we stop at the top of Bulldog and sometimes at Elephant Rock), we can stop here for a snack, before descending Mesa Peak Motorway back to our cars.
At this point, we’ll pat ourselves on the back for completing both the climb and the distance.
PACE: INTERMEDIATE – ADVANCED INTERMEDIATE. We will stop at all junctions to regroup, and will stop for at least one snack break.
DOGS: Dogs aren’t allowed in State Parks so Fido will have to stay home.
Directions from 101 Freeway: Head West on Las Virgenes Road which will turn into Malibu Canyon. We will meet in the dirt parking lot at the corner of Piuma Road and Malibu Canyon. If the lot is full, there is a pay lot a bit further up Malibu Canyon, or there is more dirt parking on Piuma Road.
Please note that there may be portions of the hike where the satellite coverage is spotty and points may not be delivered every 10 minutes.
No guests or “plus ones” please. For liability reasons we must have everyone join the group, and agree to the standard Meetup “Terms of Service”, especially section 6.2, here (http://www.meetup.com/terms/).

Most importantly: Have Fun!
