Bear Canyon Trail Maintenance
Meeting location: Park on W. Loma Alta Drive in front of equestrian center. Take Lincoln Ave. exit from 210 Freeway, then go north about 2 miles to Loma Alta. Turn right and go a short distance to the intersection with Sunset Ridge Road and park.
We plan to drive up the Mt. Lowe Fire Road to the top of Bear Canyon Trail. Our plan is to work the top part of Bear Canyon Trail down to canyon bottom. Hike will be about 3-4 miles round trip with several hundred feet gain on return
Trail work will consists of brushing, light tread work and log removal. Primary emphasis is on making the trail more visible and removing hazards. We try to accommodate each persons needs regarding tasks and hope that you have a productive and enjoyable experience. We will provide tools but you can bring your own if you prefer.
We will bring extra hard hats, gloves and safety glasses but you are welcomed to bring your own (sunglasses are OK).
Hat, gloves, long pants & long-sleeved shirt, good boots and safety glasses are recommended (hard hat will be provided.) Sandals & Sneakers are not allowed. Please be sure to bring plenty of water and your lunch.
We hope to be back by 4:30 pm.
Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.
Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
