For those not going to Pinnacles National Park, would anybody be interested doing an exploratory hike beyond Ant Camp, up a steep ridgeline to try to get above a rock outcropping that wraps around this prominent mountain, which is Cobblestone? This hike starts at Dough Flats and goes through the Sespe Wilderness and the Condor Reserve of the Los Padres National Forest. This area is very remote and would have views of Whitaker Peak and the white rock outcroppings as seen from the hikes west of Templin Highway off of Interstate 5.
The hike would be around 13 to 15 miles out and back with approximately 3500 feet of elevation gain. Bucksnort Trail is an overgrown use-trail descending to Ant Camp. There may be water going through the river in the canyon before trying to climb the ridgeline to find a path above the rock cropping that wraps around Cobblestone mountain. That would be the goal for this hike. This hike should be considered difficult due to the overgrown use-trail and the steep section beyond Ant Camp.
If interested, please sign up. Specific details will follow if there is an interest in the hike.
