As 2018 comes to a close I started to reflect on 2018 and set some goals for 2019. In early 2018, I set two personal goals; to hike 100 km (328,084 ft) in Elevation Gain and 2,000 km (1,243 mi) in Distance. The 100 km EG goal was straightforward to achieve (I did 109 km/~360,000 ft over 172 hikes), though the hikes themselves were not always so. I didn’t quite make the Distance goal, ending with 1,853 km (1,151 mi). This coming year I want to add a couple of things, one goal will be more elevation gain, but I also want to add more diversity to the hikes I’m organizing. I’ve been asked to add camping trips to the hikes, and include more events like the rafting trip, and I want to try to do that to the extent that I can. I’ll also be syncing with events in other meetups that aren’t necessarily hiking related, but could provide an arc to other groups in LA.
This event is a place-holder that I’d like you to use to post pictures of your own hikes and also describe what your own goals for 2019 are. That way I (or other organizers) can add things that are more tailored to what you’d like to achieve, and where you can update us on your progress.
As for myself, my goals for 2019 will be to hike 150 km (492,126 ft) in EG overall and the peaks of the Sierra Club Hundred Peaks Section (http://www.hundredpeaks.org/hpslist.htm) as well as some other crazy hikes.
R2R2R in one day
MR to Mt. Whitney
Barr Trail to Pikes Peak
(I will be adding to this list)
There will also be some 4×4 trips to Death Valley, Utah (various), Arizona (various), and the Lost Coast of northern California.
You’ll be seeing events in 2018 labeled with the prefix “HPS” that will be bagging some of the peaks on the HPS list.
Note – this is not a meetup event that will meet in an actual location… nor at a particular time. As the event gets closer, I will continue to move it out a month at a time.
