The Full Moon in July is the Buck Moon, named after the new antlers that emerge from a buck’s forehead around this time of the year. It is also called Thunder Moon, Hay Moon, and Wort Moon.
“Mt Basura” is my name for the Calabasas/Lost Hills Landfill. Our destination is a small peak overlooking the landfill with views of Calabasas and Agoura beyond.
🍽Bring drink and light snacks to share.
Our usual hikes to Mt Basura are about 8-9 miles. I have created a shorter option of about 5.8 miles with about 1,400′ total ascent. The trails are clear and wide — perfect for a moonlit hike.
👉NO WHITE LIGHTS ALLOWED ON HIKE. Green and/or red lights are ok (but lights may not be needed since the area will be well lit by the moon).
If you require a white light then this hike is not for you. Get one of these and stuff it into your backpack for future night hikes. https://amz.run/4bkH. (emergencies excepted, of course)
🍺🍹 Don’t forget to bring something cold to drink and snacks to share for the top of Mt Basura
